Winter’s Wisdom: How To Get Through Darker Days

Winter’s Wisdom: How To Get Through Darker Days
February 4, 2013 WholeBody Holistic

Around this time of year I begin to daydream of  warm Mexican sandy beaches. Preparing to venture outside, I slip my arms into a heavy wool coat and grumble. I wait in the dark morning hours for the car’s defrost to kick in. I grumble even more listening to the weather report on my way to work. I know I am not alone in my longing for days of blue skies and blooming flowers. But Winter is here and nobody seriously considers the possibility of changing the cycle of nature in order to bring Spring sooner. We trust the sun’s rays will once again shine from above, bees will be buzzing, and little green sprouts will eventually make their way to the surface, all in their own time.

It is good to remember that the cold and darkness will not last forever.

Even when all of your efforts for productivity and achievement seem to come to a complete standstill, you can trust that this pause is what is needed in order for the next step to come. You too will feel the vitality of Spring return. In the meantime, take care of yourself during this major transition in the earth and in yourself by attending to only the basics; hot meals, fresh air, and deep sleep. How splendid that what has been depleted will be replenished naturally without you having to do anything. Perhaps take a Winter’s break from your full spectrum light therapy lamp and that triple dose of vitamin D and invite a friend over for tea.  Soon enough life’s juices will begin to flow and melt away what has been frozen. After slowing down and resting for a full recuperation, strength and clarity will return once again.
